Harare City Council Guarantees Water Supply For At Least 1 Day A Week

Harare City Council said that it will be able to provide water to residents at least one day a week.

This was revealed by Acting Harare Water Director, Engineer Mabhena Moyo after a full council meeting held on Monday.

Speaking to 263Chat, Engineer Moyo revealed that water production levels have fallen from more than 400 to less than 300 megalitres per day. He said:

We are targeting to provide water to our residents with a minimum of once a week’ supply of the precious liquid.

We have been failing to reach our target or our demand management schedule because our production has gone down for various reasons.

Harare City Council is grappling with low water levels in the reservoirs due to drought as well as a shortage of foreign currency needed to purchase critical water treatment chemicals.

Engineer Moyo added that the water rationing exercise will continue into the foreseeable future;

We will continue with the water rationing exercise for a certain period into the foreseeable future because of the drought and chemicals.

We are using more chemicals and we have not been able to procure enough safe chemicals.

The city has been struggling to provide adequate clean water for residents for many years now, with some residential areas going for several months without water at different times.
