"ED Won't Fold Hands While The Majority Of The Populace Suffer"

Umguza legislator and Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Richard Moyo, has described President Emmerson Mnangagwa as a selfless leader. Moyo said that Mnangagwa will not sit back and watch citizens suffer.

Moyo said these remarks during a belated Umguza ward 9 election victory celebrations. He added that reforms which the government is undertaking will improve the living standards of the general populace. The legislator said:

President Mnangagwa has made several efforts to make life easier for Zimbabweans. He is not someone who will sit and fold hands while the majority of the populace suffer.

He also took the opportunity to thank the villagers for voting for the ruling party in last year’s elections.

Meanwhile, other members of the society have been critical of Mnangagwa’s actions saying he is not considerate of the plight of the nation. His hiring of an expensive private jet has not settled well with the citizenry who expect the state to be saving money for the resuscitation of the economy.

The government introduced austerity measures which are premised at ushering in prosperity. In the meantime, the measures which also introduced several tax regimes including the 2% electronic tax, have seen the public frowning.

The government’s introduction of Statutory Instrument 142 of 2019 has also attracted controversy. However, the government says that the decision was meant to cushion members of the public who were now unable to buy basic commodities on the market as they were being charged in US dollars which is scarce.
