Fadzayi Mahere Asks Govt To Explain Contradiction Between ZESA & ESKOM Statements Over Debt Payment
Opposition MDC’s Secretary for Education, advocate, Fadzayi Mahere, has called upon the government to explain the contradiction between South Africa’s power utility, ESKOM’s statement and that of ZESA over debt payment.
Her remarks come after ZESA claimed that it had paid US$10 Million, part of its debt, to ESKOM to ensure the resumption electricity importation.
ESKOM however refuted the claims saying that it was yet to receive any money.

Dear @InfoMinZW, @HeraldZimbabwe, @fortunechasi In the interests of public accountability, kindly explain what happened to the alleged payment to @Eskom_SA? It is a most unusual and undiplomatic step for a foreign entity to shame the Govt in this way. What’s the true position?

Zimbabwe has crippling power shortages owing to shrinking water levels at Kariba dam and aging power generators at Hwange thermal power station.
Resultantly, ZESA has since implemented stage two of power cuts, locally known as load shedding. This phase entails that some residential places go for about 17 hours without power.
Zesa warns that at the current pace of consumption, Zimbabwe will totally shut all power generators by October this year if no alternative is available.
