Warriors Technical Team Sweat Over Sibanda, Mushekwi Fitness

The Warriors technical team is sweating over the fitness of goalkeeper Edmore “ZiKeeper” Sibanda and striker Nyasha Mushekwi ahead of the clash with Uganda on Wednesday (tomorrow).

The duo sustained injuries in the 1-0 loss to Egypt on the opening day of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Zimbabwe Warriors team doctor Soman Mudariki revealed the extent of the duo’s injuries. He said:

Sibanda and Mushekwi sustained injuries in the opening match. Sibanda sustained a knee contusion.

He has been complaining of pain but has been responding to the treatment we gave him. We will do a scan on the knee to ascertain the extent of the injury so that we give him appropriate treatment.

As for Mushekwi, he injured his left hamstring and complained of acute pain. We treat it as grade one hamstring injury.

So far, he has been responding well and we are currently monitoring him and it will be decided whether we need to have him scanned. However, with grade one injury, there are good chances he will recover.

Coach Sunday Chidzambga has already lost Tafadzwa Kutinyu to injury before the tournament started.

However, Mhofu has George Chigova and Elvis Chipezeze to cover for ZiKeeper while Mushekwi may not be sorely missed with Evans Rusike, Tino Kadewere, and Knox Mtizwa are available to play up front.
