With reports indicating that the government is sprucing up the police’s arsenal and making the force ready to deal with protests, a picture of an anti-riot police officer in “new gear” has surfaced on social media.
Commenting on the “new look” anti-riot police, the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) wrote on Twitter:
Fighting poverty, inequality and unemployment is much cheaper for any Government than fighting citizens seeking answers from the government.
Workers and citizens are not asking for brutality and repression, they need affordable food, medical care, housing, education, decent salaries.
