A number of suspected “Osiphatheleni”, illegal foreign currency dealers were arrested by the police on Friday near Tredgold building in Bulawayo in an ongoing operation.
Acting Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube told the Chronicle that the operation was meant to bring sanity to Bulawayo streets. Ncube said:
We are still in the streets carrying out our work so I am unable to give the exact number of arrests made but I can just say more women have been arrested than men in this operation.
Insp Ncube urged members of the public to desist from stockpiling cash and keeping large amounts of money at home saying that they could be targeted by robbers and other criminal elements.
He also applauded the public for working closely with the police saying that the good relationship was yielding positive results. He said that the recent arrest of a drug syndicate which has been supplying toxic substances to the public was only possible because the police and the citizens worked together.
