President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said that Zimbabwe needs younger people to lead it. He was speaking during a Capitalk FM radio interview on Friday 15 June.
Mnangagwa said that during the Political Actors Dialogue, one leader had suggested that the constitution be amended to allow presidents of more than 80 years of age. He said, he disagreed with the individual because younger president are needed.
One leader of a political party said ” I think it is necessary that we change the age of presidency. We must make sure presidents must go beyond 80.”
I said, “no, I disagree with you”. Then I said to him. “After me, I would wish that this country finds a president who is young. We mustn’t repeat having people of my age. I think we need younger people to lead this country.”
Mnangagwa also said during the interview that some members of POLAD think he’s too democratic.
