Chamisa Hails Khupe As ‘A Comrade In The Struggle’

Leaders of the two MDCs, Nelson Chamisa and Thokozani Khupe were seen in animated conversation at the burial of Glen View South MP, Vimbai Tsvangirai Java on Thursday.

There is no love lost between the presidents of the MDC and MDC-T respectively after their acrimonious fallout in 2018 following the death of party founding president Morgan Tsvangirai.

When the master of ceremony acknowledged Khupe’s presence, MDC supporters jeered her as well as asking her to leave.

However, Chamisa lept to Khupe’s defence and called his own supporters to order. He said:

If you’re not able to be tolerant to Dr Khupe, then you’re not able to respect me and that, we will not tolerate. I hope you don’t feel I have dressed you down in front of visitors.

In his address at the City Sports Centre, Chamisa described Khupe as a comrade in the struggle. He added:

You were my deputy prime minister when I was your minister; you were my vice president when I was your spokesperson and organising secretary. That hierarchy is not broken… we will build this country together. Everyone has a role.
