'Drug Cartels To Be Dismantled As We Bring Indian Players' - Health Minister
In a move meant to destroy the power of cartels in the medicinal drugs sector, the government has engaged Indian companies to establish in-country warehouses in Zimbabwe.
This was revealed by the Minister of Health and Child Care, Obadiah Moyo.
He was presenting oral evidence to the Thematic Committee on HIV and Aids in Parliament on Monday. He said:
The more companies that we are able to bring, the lower the costs will be because there will be competition.
Talking of cartels, in the pharmaceutical industry, we will get rid of them by having more of the Indian players.

… What we realised is that to curb unscrupulous elements in the pharmaceutical industry, we have to bring the manufacturers into the country.
There is actually a team coming from India in the coming days to assess the working environment for bonded warehouses.
Moyo said that the government will work on capacitating local drug manufacturers, that is, Caps, Datlabs, Varichem among others.
Chairperson of the Thematic Committee Senator Morgan Femai (MDC-A) said that the committee was pleased by the manner in which the government was intending to deal with the challenges facing the pharmaceutical sector.
