Portugal and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly refusing to think about the Ballon d’Or despite Portugal’s UEFA Nations League success. Portugal won the inaugural competition on Sunday night as Ronaldo lifted the trophy after a 1-0 win over Holland.
CR7, as Cristiano Ronaldo is popularly known within the soccer circles, scored a hat-trick in the semi-final success over Switzerland.
Speaking after the tournament, the former Real Madrid superstar said that the main goal for entering into the tournament was to win it. When journalists pushed him to speak his mind on the prestigious Balon d’Or, Ronaldo responded:
No, I will not speak about the Ballon d’Or.
Liverpool and Netherlands defender, Virgil van Dijk has emerged as the favorite to win the Ballon d’Or prize after a stunning campaign that ended with Liverpool lifting the Champions League. Meanwhile, Barcelona star Lionel Messi is the second-favorite.
