BREAKING: Cabinet Reviews Up Maize Prices

Reports coming in suggest that the Cabinet has just resolved to pay maize farmers US$242 per tonne at the prevailing interbank rate which translates to RTGS 1400 per tonne.

Agrinews observes that this is an upward review from the RTGS726 announced a few weeks back.

This comes when other cotton growers were told recently that they will be getting only a high of USD10 for their crops. The Tobacco sale season also delayed starting as there was a standoff between the government and farmers over the pricing of the golden leaf. The government later announced that it would be giving farmers 50% of their proceeds in foreign currency.
