Recently elected MDC Youth Assembly deputy chairperson Cecilia Chimbiri has said that her party shall push the government of president Emmerson Mnangagwa out of office before the end of its tenure.
Speaking to the NewsDay during an interview, Chimbiri said that the MDC party deserved to be the government since the people voted it at the 2018 harmonised elections. She further claimed that the local electoral body, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) manipulated the outcome of the election in favor of the incumbent government.
Asked if the MDC intended to remove ZANU PF from power through the ballot in 2023, the MDC youth leader said:
We are not waiting for an election in 2023. We are going to confront Mnangagwa. In fact, we want Mnangagwa to resign. We can’t continue like this, we wake up we go to the stores to buy mealie meal at ridiculous prices, cooking oil for ZWL$30. We cannot wait any longer, we want ED gone, we want Zanu PF gone and we want to usher in a new life for the Zimbabweans.
Meanwhile, she said that her party would employ methods such as civil disobedience and demonstrations to force the Mnangagwa administration out of office.
