7 Ways To Lose Weight, Stay Slim And Maintain A Youthful Look

Im sure by now, you have heard 1000 ways to lose weight, stay slim and keep a youthful look. Run in the morning, some have said, eat 5 small meals some have said, don’t drink, don’t eat palatable foods ( really) stop eating sugar, stop eating carbs, skip a rope, don’t eat too much salt, dont breath, don’t, don’t, don’t. Most of these tips are so absurd carrying them out will just be ridiculously hard.

Losing weight keeping it off and retaining and maintaining a youthful look is a collective effort. These 7 (easy) tips will help you achieve all 3 of the above in normal time.

1. Try having a healthy diet

80% of the time try and eat healthily. Minimize processed foods and opt for whole foods which are rich in nutrients. Increase your fruits and veggie intake and opt for sugar-free cold drinks and minimise sugary foods. Note the tip is to minimise, once in 3 days or 3/4 times a week etc is what we call minimal. Restricting yourself from these foods will make your body crave for them and cravings and their vices are hard to control.

2. Ditch Alcohol And Smoking

If possible, ditch alcohol and stop smoking. Alcohol is known to interfere with some nutrients and causing some imbalances that are not good for the body. Smoking is known to have ugly effects that sometimes include dreaded cancer. However, ditching these after consuming them and or doing it for years is no joke. Start by minimising the your intake till you get to a point that you can do without it for the maximum number of days till you are completely free. If you can’t control your urges start on a program to get rid of your addictions. like the famous 12 step program.

3. Get Enough Sleep.

So many people trivialise the power and benefits of sleeping. When you are sleeping, the body gets the time to repair all the worn out tissues. In order to look young and maintain that youthful look, we need to sleep more. Infact if you can, also take a small afternoon nap as research has shown that power naps can help with youthful looks. The longer you sleep the more the body gets time to repair and revitalise. Ditch the short 5 to 6 hours of sleep a day to a good 7 to 8 hours or 9 in some instances to allow your body to self-correct or self heal.

4. Have a daily walking routine.

Modernisation and civilisation have taken this away from us. Most people drive to work, drive to school, drive nextdoor, drive to the bin. If there was a way of driving around the house im so sure a lot of us would take that option. Unfortunately, the less active we are the closer we are to dying. Fortunately for us, walking is one of the most effective ways of maintaining all 3 of the above. By walking you can shed off the extra weight, maintain a trim figure and look younger. Walking must be the magic pill we are all looking for. Try and walk actively for 1 good hour 6 days a week as you get used to it increase the pace, or the distance or duration of the power walks. After 6 weeks you can inbox me and thank me.

5. Manage your stress

Easier said than done right, especially during these hard times in Zimbabwe. It’s so sad to know that the chemical imbalances in our systems caused by stress are detrimental to our health. This may affect our looks also. Most people have different coping mechanisms and binge eating is one of the common methods of managing stress. Binge eating already put more strain on the body that is strained by stress and that obviously is not good for the body. When you are stressed, try and exercise and seek help whenever you feel the situation around you is too much to handle.

6. Try to stay positive all the time.

While research about optimism and pessimism remain inconclusive ( some researchers say being an optimist prolongs your life, some say being a pessimist preserves your life) being positive means you are more likely to be happy. Being happy is good for the soul and the body as it needs less energy to keep it at opium levels. Happy people tend to live longer and look younger we can all attest to that. Negative thoughts can affect the quality of your life and be harmful to your wellbeing as an individual.

7. Avoid Too Much Sun exposure.

The sun is good but too much of it drains the elasticity out of our skin making it saggy and dry. If you need to be in the sun minimize your time to before 9 AM to after 4 PM as the rays won’t be too powerful by then.
