Zanu PF Youths Assault Colleagues For Wearing Red T-Shirts

Allen Nyamakope and Ashwin Banda have reported to the police an assault on them by ZANU PF Bulawayo youths on Sunday allegedly for respectively wearing a red t-shirt and having a relative supporting another political party.

It is reported that the duo sustained bruises following the assault that took place outside the party’s Davies Hall provincial offices. Nyamakope and Banda were walking past Davies Hall when they were assaulted. Red is more associated with the opposition MDC.

Reports suggest that Ashwin allegedly attempted to apologise on Nyamakope’s behalf by revealing that he was related to the party’s former chair, Andifasi Banda who is now with the NPF. The apology is believed to have worsened the matter as the ZANU PF youths considered Andifasi a sellout.

Andifasi Banda confirmed the incident. He said:

They were accused of being MDC supporters and also being related to a sell-out. Why should it be a crime to wear a red T-shirt, let alone defecting from Zanu PF? This is all politically-motivated and my worry is that if they can beat my young brother, what of me who is into active politics?
