Peter Mtharika Sworn In As Malawi’s President

Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika was sworn in as Malawi president on Friday 31 May 2019.

The 78 year old president also spoke on the need to create jobs for youths and the promotion of local businesses and investments for Malawians.

He said his next 5-year programme will see the growth of the business sector as well as making sure that all students have a good educational platform.

A former law professor, Mutharika came to power in 2014 and is credited for improving infrastructure and lowering inflation.

Mutharika closely beat opponents; Malawi Congress Party’s Lazarus Chakwera and UTM’s Dr Saulos Chilima and was declared the winner on 21 May 2019. He got 1,940,709 votes against Chakwwera’s 1,817,740 and Chilima’s 1,028,258 votes.
