Minister July Moyo Told To Resign After ZESA Lawsuit

A constitutional law expert and lecturer, Alex Magaisa has called upon the Minister of Local Government, July Moyo, to do the right thing and resign.

Minister Moyo has been dragged to the High Court by the country’s power utility, the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) over an unpaid electricity bill of over $400 000. Said Magaisa:

Bigwigs habitually don’t pay their bills and they aren’t small. ZESA fails to pay bills for power imports contributing to shortages. Bigwigs can always find alternative sources of energy for their families. They might even get the fuel from the state.

In a normal country where a government minister finds himself being sued by the state either directly or through its entities, it would be hard to justify his continued role as a minister. But there’s too much mediocrity in the country and such nonsense is tolerated.
