Four pro-democracy activists who were arrested on arrival at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport have been charged with treason.
This was revealed by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) in a statement which reads:
Zim authorities charge four pro-democracy campaigners George Makoni, Tatenda Mombeyara, Gamuchirai Mukura and Nyasha Mpahlo with subverting constitutional government for allegedly plotting to overthrow President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.
In a statement, the Ministry of Information and Publicity said:
The Police have arrested 4 members of 3 CSOs ( COTRAD, International Socialist Organisation and Green Governance Zimbabwe) who are suspected of breaking the law.
Investigations are currently underway and the rule of law should be allowed to take its course.
