Chamisa Challenged To Proceed With "illegal" Congress

The lawyer for Elias Mashavira, an MDC activist who initiated a court process that invalidated Nelson Chamisa’s presidency in the MDC has challenged Chamisa to proceed with the scheduled congress against a High court ruling.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with NewZimbabwe.com, Tapera Sengwemi said:

The court has the final say. Whether you are the president, first lady, whether you were chosen, appointed yourself or chosen by a standing committee or standing council, when the judgment comes, the law of the land expects you to respect it.

Sengwemi further remarked that it is rather astonishing that the MDC, a party full of law experts, would take such risky actions. The lawyer also thinks that Chamisa is not invincible as portrayed by his supporters. He says that if that was the case, he would have gone to Congress with 2014 delegates. He added:

I go back to statements thrown around that Mr. Chamisa is popular. If he is popular generally, let us then accept that he will be elected by anyone. He does not have to create new structures.

Let us go to congress with those delegates (2014 delegates).

If you were following the recent madness around the country, you will appreciate that less than one percent of the previous structures retained their positions because they (MDC) are deliberately creating new structures.

Chamisa who has since roped in advocate Thabani Mpofu insists that the party shall hold the Congress. Meanwhile, Khuphe has engaged professor Lovemore Madhuku to implement the High court ruling.
