Diplomats Call For An ‘Inclusive & Credible’ Dialogue Process

Diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe have expressed support for dialogue among the country’s political actors.

This follows the launch of the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Harare on Friday.

South Africa’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mphakama Mbete, who was standing in for the dean of the diplomatic corps, said that dialogue should be inclusive and involve an external mediator to be credible. He said:

We are grateful that the leadership of Zimbabwe has decided to begin dialogue voluntarily.

This is a demonstration by an African country working on African problem for an African solution. It gives the people of Zimbabwe a sense of belonging.

As Sadc we are grateful for this strategic move. It must be inclusive and must involve everyone.

If necessary for credibility, the leadership of Zimbabwe may consider a facilitator from outside Zimbabwe. As a region, we are ready to provide assistance where necessary.
