Minister Chasi ‘Sharpening Knife To Skin The Live Snake’

The newly appointed Minister of Energy and Power Development, Fortune Chasi, has thanked Zimbabweans for their “kind” comments and messages.

Chasi was made the Energy Minister earlier this week after the removal of Joram Gumbo who had been holding the portfolio since 2018.

Gumbo was demoted following a worsening energy crisis in the form of debilitating power cuts and chronic fuel shortages.

Since his appointment, comments on Chasi’s new job have generally been positive, as the former Deputy Transport Minister is very active on Twitter.

Soon after his appointment was announced, a follower suggested that he had been handed a live snake. On Thursday, Chasi took to Twitter and wrote:

Thank you all MaZimba for the kind comments and messages. Indeed I have moved to Energy. Not a walk in the part but not insurmountable! We are sharpening our knives to skin the LIVE SNAKE šŸ!

In response to the tweet, a follower made some suggestions:

I have got a few suggestions
1 Pipeline yechi 2 for fuel mdara ndoo chamboko manje
2 Duty-free per month importation of Solar panels per specific number
3 Duty-free solar systems per month per spec number of sets
4 private feeders for power to Zesa grid
5 wind power generators.

Freeman Chari, a United States-based social activist asked Chasi to clarify if it’s really a snake, or else a crocodile. Said Chari:

Panoda clarity apa is it a snake or crocodile because vamwe we will be asking Kuti where did the legs go, apa he will be saying it was a snake – there were no legs. Is this a SNAKE or a CROCODILE?
