Bees Plunge Border Town Into Darkness

Plumtree was from Tuesday this week plunged into darkness for over 24 hours after bees prevented ZESA employees from replacing vandalised power transmission cables.

Reports indicate that a reaction team of Zimbabwe Electricity Distribution Company’s (ZETDC) dispatched to correct the failure on the High Voltage Transmission lines connecting the border town and Bulawayo was stung by bees, at Khami Bridge area forcing them to retreat.

The situation forced Plumtree ZETDC area manager Victor Ndawana to summon the Civil Protection Unit (CPU) to assist. Said Ndawana:

We lost power from Bulawayo at 1 am and efforts are underway to rectify the problem.

It is with regret that works on conductor replacement, due to copper theft close to Khami River, will not be finished today.
