MDC Hits Back At 'Paranoid' Govt

The MDC has hit back at the government over the statement issued by the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Cain Mathema, on Monday.

Mathema told a news conference that the police and other security services have unearthed a plot by foreigners working in cahoots with civil society organisations to overthrow the ZANU PF government.

Addressing the media in Harare on Tuesday, MDC spokesperson Jacob Mafume accused the government of paranoia and looking for an excuse to crush dissenting voices. Said Mafume:

We have said this before, that Zimbabwe is captured by a very dangerous group of people, who are irrational, unreasonable, paranoid and will do anything to crush dissent in pursuit of their power retention agenda.

They reveal another attempt to victimise Zimbabweans, justify a premeditated crackdown on actors in the democratic movement.

In his press conference, Mathema claimed that he had gathered intelligence to the effect that there was a workshop meant to plot to overthrow the government.

Similar fake intelligence reports have been used before to target members of the opposition and CSOs leaders like Rashid Mahiya, none of these cases where prosecuted on these intelligence report and none of these things could be sustained in court.

Zanu PF led government is responsible for the people’s suffering and economic decay. They have created chaos in the country.
