Chamisa Denies Reports That He Has 'Climbed Down'

MDC president Nelson Chamisa has reiterated his call for dialogue with President Emmerson Mnangagwa over the disputed July 30, 2018, elections.

Chamisa has consistently disputed the poll outcome and maintains that the result was rigged by ZANU PF in connivance with electoral officials.

Speaking after his party’s national standing committee meeting in Harare on Wednesday, Chamisa said:

We have a very simple promise, our promise is our readiness to dialogue for the benefit of the people of Zimbabwe. We are not ready to compromise from that promise.
But of course, I have seen that (reports) saying Mr Chamisa has climbed down, MDC has climbed down. We have not climbed up.

We have always said let there be a genuine dialogue, authentic dialogue based on issues that are affecting the people of Zimbabwe.

Not these kind rallies where you see Mr Mnangagwa pulling with people whom he agrees with.

Dialogue is for people who are not in agreement. We do not agree with Mr Mnangagwa on issues that were dealt with at the constitutional court. Determined legally but politically it still has to be resolved.

On his part, Mnangagwa has forged ahead with negotiating with a handful of smaller parties that participated in the 2018 poll.
