Shamva Mine security guard, Holy Zindi (42) was remanded in custody for alledly shooting and killing a trespassing artisanal miner last week.
Bindura magistrate Madalitso Phiri remanded Zindi in custody to May 5 for allegedly killing Granage Chere (32). The accused was not asked to plead to the murder charge.
It is alleged that artisanal miners who were armed with explosive assaulted and chased away miners at Shamva Gold Mine. The miners then called for reinforcement from security guards who fired three warning shot into the air.
Artisanal miners were however not intimidated by warning shots. Zindi then fired four shots on Chere who died on the spot. This dispersed other artisanal miners who left Chere’s body.
Moses Makonese, Chief security Officer at Shamwa Mine filed a police report at Shamva Police Station the following day leading to Zindi’s arrest. Chere’s body was ferried to Shamva Hospital for a post-mortem.
