A zimbabwean hip hop musician, manager and socialite, Kuda Musasiwa also known as the Begotten Sun, has has claimed that Africa is being exploited by foreign film makers. He argued that out of the millions the films taken in Africa make, only insignificant amounts of money are given back to Africa. Below is a twitter thread in which he expresses his frustration:
Did you know: wild life films shot in Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa have generated many billions of dollars. Nat Geo, BBC & now Netflix. There are no David Attenborough's from Africa. You Africans need to know that your stolen wealth isn't just gold and diamonds.

Foreign camera crews fly in. Hire a guide and pay them peanuts. Film your lands and animals and fly out and get paid millions. How many Africans are on the value chain? Very few. How many countries benefit from the millions made from syndication and royalties. Very little.

Imagine a Zim crew flying to England. And going around Eping forest and Scotland and filming hundreds of hours of footage of British animals to make billions in Africa. Would the British just allow that. I wonder….
