Government Must Uphold Section 20 Of The Costitution - Students

A students representative group, National Association of Youth Organisations (Nayo) Africa has called upon the government to uphold section 20 of the constitution which mandates the government to ensure that youths are well represented.

The youth organisation’s Clusters Coordinator Kumbirai Munyoro who was speaking during a press briefing recently said:

Government has to uphold section 20 of the Constitution which mandates it among other things to ensure that youths have opportunities to associate and to be represented, participate and are protected from harmful exploitation and all forms of abuse. The current political rhetoric labelling them as hooligans and terrorists is disheartening.

The call follows alleged victimisation of students who have been protesting against unfavorable conditions in various academic institutions. It is also alleged that students in various instutions were recently arrested for demonstrating against fees increments, deteriorating education standards or barring of students who would have failed to pay tuition fees.
