Soldiers, Police Invade Bindura Following Murder Of Colleagues

A joint operation by the police and army is reported to have invaded Bindura following the murder of two soldiers by gold panners over sex workers.

The incident reportedly occurred around 1 AM on Tuesday. Locals said that the fight started in a bar and spilled outside where the miners armed themselves with machetes, knives and empty beer bottles and attacked 4 soldiers.

ZimLive.com reports that Zimbabwe National Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Alphios Makotore revealed that the four soldiers were deployed in Bindura where they were to take part in rehearsals for the Independence Day parade.

The police are believed to have rounded up women in the suburb suspected of being prostitutes for investigation. This has however attracted backlash from human rights activists.
