ACIE LUMUMBA posted onto his Facebook wall the following text. He was narrating how he started The Lumumba Files Drive #TLFD Youtube initiative that has reached a remarkable milestone of over 1 million views so far. He wrote:
This time last year I was battling a police scandal that ruined my business, (nyaya dzangu dzechi gweja), I lost every client and lead in a business I had worked so hard to kick off. A man I had never met (OB), picked me up, paid off my debt and built me the first piece of my production company. He told me I would become the highest paid communicator in the country (I believed him). Daily he taught me scripture. He taught me that God has a way of saying “YES” to the one everyone said “NO” to.
Within a month of his help I got a big client who needed a man who could to sell fire to paper plane. I worked hard, stayed connected to God and build my family an unbelivable lifestyle. Same time my business got a major injection from an old friend (KT). Sometime this year my guardian withdrew his support from me, he demanded I fly by myself. I had no idea how it would work but I was focused to lift off. With the same team I began with Tinashe Todd Mombeshora Kuda Musasiwa Gamuchirai M Manyika we started #TFDrive. The idea was inspired by carpool karaoke. Advertisers began to stream in, first it was Chicken Inn Zimbabwe then Philip Mataranyika & Land Rover Zimbabwe threw their weight. I mention these 3 because they believed in me before I had the proof of numbers.
11 Episodes later, 1 million+ views later we have reached a spot very few content creators in this country can dream of. Its not only sweet because we got here, its sweeter because we knocked off Jah Prayzah from the top spot (a true maverick of his time). #TLFDrive is highest grossing production in Zimbabwe, period!
Today I am involved in 2 international productions (ndichazokuwudzayi), and the best local one.
But here is what I realised this morning; through my rise and my fall, you guys where here. Judging, liking, pouring paraffin to kufarisa kwangu, you where here. Some of you have grown to love me though we have never met,
I love you. Some of you come to see and pretend you never saw zvenyu kunyepera kusaziva. Some of you patakasangana anga ari mabiribobi. I apologize where I have offended, grateful where you have sharpened me, tichajairirana to those with poor taste and haven’t caught up yet.
I also find myself realising I have backsliden in my relationship with God and need to fix that. But I dedicate this #1 Spot to all of you.
Trevor Gupo could not stomach Acie Lumumba’s story. He fumed in his response to Lumumba’s post. Trevor said:
Acie I honestly had put this under the bridge. Please tell the whole world the truth of how you stole the idea from us and made it yours … I didn’t give it to you !!!! We told you in confidence of how we wanted you to be a guest on the show which was supposed to be called “driving diaries” produced by Emily and OCmediazw and you agreed and we set for a date we would meet with everyone involved and shoot our first episode but you then went on and took it made made it yours . ..You even sent people to call me and ask me to shoot the show but i denied , You know i was devastated, I called you countless times and you would ignore my calls … I honestly had forgotten about this but had also lived with a sense of betrayal from you . I don’t know why you even mentioned my name because i never got anything out of it …. You stole Acie You stole !!! Stop involving me in things i was never part of
