Julius Malema Brands ED A 'Sell-out' For Compensating White Farmers

Commander-in-chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), a South African opposition party, Julius Malema has labelled President Emmerson Mnangagwa a sell-out for agreeing to compensate white former commercial farmers.

Malema said Mnangagwa is worse than his predecessor, former President Robert Mugabe who left office In 2017 under heavy pressure from the military. He said Mnangagwa may not be able to finish his five-year term.

Speaking to reporters in Johannesburg, South Africa, Malema said:

I can tell you now he won’t finish his term. The way he’s going about it, he’s not going to finish his term.
That country is swimming in a pool of poverty; they can’t afford basic things like primary health care, good education and infrastructure.

They get money and they go and give to people who are not deserving of such money. It’s a sell-out position, it’s unsustainable.

The government announced on Monday that it is set to release an initial $53 million dollars toward compensating the former farmers for infrastructure developments undertaken on the land.

However, the Commercial Farmers Union says the government needs to raise over US$10 billion to compensate the former farmers.

Malema said that the EFF does not agree with Mnangagwa because the white farmers do not deserve compensation. He said:

We don’t agree with Mnangagwa. They (white farmers) don’t deserve any compensation, and therefore anyone who compensates them for stolen land is a sell-out.
So Mnangagwa is a sell-out. He must know that he’s bad, he’s a sell-out. We thought he was going to bring fresh air in Zimbabwe but he’s continuing to be worse than what we’ve experienced before. He’s a sell-out and he must know that.
