Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo has apologised for erosive comments on sungura maestro Alick Macheso in an interview on national television.
Mukanya is believed to have claimed that the late Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi and himself were the only international artists to emerge from Zimbabwe. He is believed to have further said that Macheso and others were only known locally and in England. Several people are believed to have taken to social media to renounce Mukanya’s actions.
Some of my statements sounded like they were attacking my fellow artists but I was simply expressing my views.
My apologies if they offended anyone. I would like to see more of our artists reach out to a wider audience (internationally) and to see them succeed.

“Several people are believed to have taken to social media to renounce Mukanya’s actions.”.
That’s incorrect. Only Mukanya can renounce. The rest can denounce.
