Destruction of crops causes severe food shortages,UN

The United Nations (UN) has said that food security is now a major challenge in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Malawi due to Cyclone Idai.

The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) President also said that the threats to food security are being caused by the destruction of crops. The destroyed crops amount to  500,0000 hectares  (Five billion square meters).

The World Meteorological Organizations warned that the consequences of climate change will be felt in the development of extreme events. It, therefore, encouraged for strong action to be taken before its too late
