Govt Condemned For Spending £100 000 On Judges' Wigs

A law expert and political analyst, Alex Mgaisa, has castigated the government’s decision to buy wigs for judges worth 100 000 pounds from the United Kingdom.

He says the money should have been used for giving a facelift to the courtrooms, revamping the toilets at the courts among other basic court infrastructure. Writing on microblogging site Twitter on Saturday, Magaisa said:

This story had eluded my attention. I have previously suggested the abolition of this dress-code for reasons of incongruity with the times and their ridiculous look on the judges. But on this occasion, just the cost factor alone should have prevailed upon the judges’ minds.

The amount of money spent on this ludicrous apparel would be enough to upgrade abysmal toilet facilities and waiting rooms at court buildings, let alone courtrooms themselves which are in a desperate state. But they export £100,000 to an English merchant in London – for wigs!

So here is a country which is desperately short of forex. And what do the judges do with the little they get? They use it to buy horse-hair wigs from London! If they are really desperate for wigs they could ask local craftsmen to make the same wigs out of sisal fibre!
