Govt Warns Zanu-PF Officials Grabbing Cyclone Idai Relief Items

Local government minister July Moyo has warned Zanu PF officials who are allegedly grabbing relief items donated to victims of Cyclone Idai in Chimanimami.

Mail and Telegraph reports Moyo said reports Zanu-PF officials grabbed the relief items were not true. Addressing a press briefing on Tuesday, Moyo, who was accompanied by other cabinet ministers who include Perence Shiri (Lands), Monica Mutsvangwa (Information), Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu (Industry), Paul Mavima (education) and Sithembiso Nyoni (women), warned that any attempt to politicise food distribution to Cyclone Idai victims will not be tolerated.

He said what could have happened was that the Zanu PF youths could have offered to transport the goods to affected areas in their party branded vehicles and the act could have been interpreted to mean that the youths had grabbed the goods.

  1. It is wrong for Zanu Pf or any party for that matter to take advantage of the people’s predicament to find a way to do some campaign gimmick at this moment in time. In any case the distribution should be done by independent organisations, the NGOs, Red Cross, Churches and the international community. We know what parties do, they want to capitalise.
