Young Warriors Beat Mozambique 2-0
In a match played in Harare on Tuesday afternoon, Zimbabwe’s Young Warriors beat Mozambique 2-0 in a U-23 AFCON qualifier at the National Sports Stadium.
Late goals from substitutes Delic Murimba and Obriel Murimba were enough to hand Zimbabwe a victory which will see them play with either Angola or South Africa.

The home team, however, had a dull first half and the Young Mambas should have gone to the break in the lead but failed to convert their dominance into goals. Peace Makaha’s flank proved to be the highway for the opposite team while captain Prince Dube fluffed the few chances he got at the other end.

The second-half started with both teams creating good opportunities but nothing could come out to break the deadlock.

The introduction of Chirinda in the last quarter of the game changed the complexion of the play as the hosts adopted a more attacking approach.

The Chicken Inn man then opened the scoring in the 88th minute with a left-foot screamer and Murimba sealed it in the added time, five minutes after he came on as a substitute.

Zimbabwe managed to hold on to their late advantage as they beat their eastern neighbours 2-0 on aggregate.

Having beaten the Mambas of Mozambique by an aggregate scoreline of 2-0, the Young Warriors will now meet either South Africa or Angola in the decisive round of the qualifiers for a place at the eight-team Under-23 AFCON scheduled for Egypt in November.
