Magistrate Defers Decision To Give Supa Mandiwanzira His Passport
A Harare Magistrate has deferred the decision to lease a passport to the legislator and former minister Supa Mandiwanzira, who is facing charges of criminal abuse of office. Prosecutors argued against Mandiwanzira’s application to have his bail conditions relaxed citing a flight risk.
Mandiwanzira’s lawyers requested the relaxation of bail conditions to enable the former minister and entrepreneur to travel to China for business. The lawyers offered to put up a home property worth $100,000 as surety. Another property worth 100,000 has already been submitted as surety.
Mandiwanzira’s charges are that he:
- Engaged a South African company Megawatt to do consultancy work for NetOne outside set procedures
- Appointed his allegedly unqualified personal assistant to the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (Potraz) board.
The decision will be granted next week.
