In an interview with The Herald, Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications) George Charamba confirmed some neighbours are charging Cyclone Idai survivors $10 for a place to sleep.
Charamba criticised people who are doing this and urged them to have the spirit of togetherness. Said Charamba:
What, though, is disheartening to me personally was to pick up reports that families whose structures are much more solid are in fact levying something like $10 per night per person. It is not the way to deal with neighbours in a distressful environment. That spirit of ubuntu that typifies us as a people must be on show.
