Govt To Withdraw Shona Primary School Teachers From Bulawayo

The government has acknowledged that errors were made in the recent recruitment and deployment of teachers across the country.

There was a huge uproar in Bulawayo after non-Ndebele speaking teachers were deployed to teach pupils at infant level.

The deployments are likely to be reversed after the government blamed glitches in the e-recruitment exercise and apologised for the gaffe.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education secretary Tumisang Thabela on Monday said:

For this reason, measures are being taken to rectify the deployment mismatch that was noted so that the rights of learners as enshrined in the Constitution are safeguarded.

The ministry takes note of the concerns raised particularly by Bulawayo Province with regards to a mismatch in the deployment of teachers at infant level. It is a result of some glitches in the e-recruitment process and due attention is being given to this issue by the ministry.
