MDC Youths Disrupt Meeting, Threaten Chamisa's Challengers- Report

A source told The Herald that on Friday MDC youths aligned to Nelson Chamisa disrupted the party’s Harare provincial meeting.

The youth also threatened to harm members seeking to remove Chamisa at the party’s forthcoming congress. MDC Harare provincial chairman, Eric Murayi, had called for the meeting to explain the party’s congress template to members. The sources said, a group of six youths among them, Benjamin who is Happymore Chidziva’s driver, entered the venue of the meeting chanting “Nero, Nero Nero Chete”. The source said:

They threatened to assault (Mr) Murayi and those against (Mr) Chamisa’s presidency by supporting (Mr) Douglas Mwonzora to take over leadership of the party. They categorically made it clear to those who were in the meeting that they do not want anyone who opposes (Mr) Chamisa to lead the party.

Paul Madzore is said to have stormed into the meeting chanting slogans in support of Mr Chamisa and a fight broke out between one Benjamin from Mabvuku and Mr Chidziva’s driver. Costa Machingauta is said to have taken over chairing the meeting. The source said almost all the members walked out in fear of their lives. According to the source, Chidziva said Chamisa will not be contested.
