ZESA Prepaid Electricity System Down

ZESA Holdings on Monday revealed that it was experiencing technical challenges on its prepaid system across the country.

ZESA spokesperson Fullard Gwasira said in a statement on Monday:

It’s countrywide. We are working to fix the challenge, which has affected Econet’s EcoCash (mobile money transfer facility) and we are investigating whether it is our side of the system or EcoCash.

The country’s largest telecoms company, Econet Wireless was experiencing its own glitches as there was an intermittent loss of service on several platforms throughout the day. A statement issued by the company read as follows:

We sincerely apologise for the intermittent service you have been experiencing on EcoCash, voice and data services. Our engineers are working flat out to restore normal services.
