FULL THREAD: How Joanna Mamombe Was Abducted In Nyanga

MDC Alliance legislator Joanna Mamombe was on Saturday was taken from Nyanga by four men who claimed that they were from the Law and Order section. On Monday she appeared before a Harare magistrate where she is facing treason charges. She said:

Parliament bus was about to leave (a hotel in Nyanga) as I was going for breakfast. Before the bus left for Harare I saw four-man coming towards me.

I then changed direction as if trying to board the bus but the assailants followed me. Out of fear, I went back to the hotel reception and one of the assailants said arikutipedzera nguva.

They approached me and asked my name and I told them, so they said I was under arrest.

I told then I needed to notify the speaker of Parliament because I was on Parliament business, but they refused to listen. I asked to see their IDs but they refused to show me. The Speaker of Parliament came out and I ran towards him and told him I was in great danger.

He asked me if they identified themselves I said they did not. The speaker of Parliament asked them who were they and said they are police from law and order. Mudenda then asked them all 7 to identify themselves and if they had an arrest warrant, but they said they did not have any.

One of the people came direct to the speaker shielding his identity and showed the speaker but the speaker said he needs to take the details. The speaker took the details.

I told the speaker that I was afraid to go with them and I asked if the could follow our Parliamentary bus but they refused. The assailant only identified themselves to the speaker but they refused to show me.

When I got into their Toyota Fortuner they just sped off nobody talked to anyone they were just making phone calls. In Marondera I asked to go to the toilet and a woman who was in the car escorted me. Up to the time, I did not know who arrested me and what was the charge.

When we got to the Police Law and Order section in Harare I asked one of the police officers what my charges were. That is when my lawyers came.
