Mnangagwa Leads Lake Chivero Clean Up Exercise

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been part of a Joint National Clean Up Exercise and the commemoration of the Africa Environment Day (Wangari Maathai Day) and the World Wildlife Day at Lake Chivero on Friday.

This was revealed by the Ministry of Information and Publicity. A statement on the Ministry’s Twitter page reads as follows:

Today President Mnangagwa led the Joint National Clean Up Exercise and the commemoration of the Africa Environment Day (Wangari Maathai Day) and the World Wildlife Day at Lake Chivero. He challenged all people to dispose of their waste at designated places.

He warned industrialists and other players to desist from discharging raw effluent into the country’s water bodies, reiterating that government will re-interrogate and re-examine the laws related to litter disposal. He urged all stakeholders to adopt robust waste management systems.

President Mnangagwa also decried the heavy water pollution at Lake Chivero, which has caused the water to turn green in colour. He further expressed displeasure at the disappearance of some fish species in Lake Chivero due to the water pollution.
