CPU Appeals For Pumps To Drain Flooded Mine Shafts At Battlefields

The Civil Protection Unit in Mashonaland West is frantically draining water from two mines that were flooded, trapping 23 miners in the process.

The miners are thought to have died at two different mines in Battlefields. The mine disaster occurred close to midnight.

CPU chairperson for Mashonaland West and Provincial Administrator Cecilia Chitiyo had this to say:

We are appealing to miners with 30 horsepower pumps which can clear 60-100m head to come and assist rescue at Cricket Mine. Some shafts are about 42 m deep but two of these are about 60 to 100m deep.
