January Disease (Theileriosis) Vaccines To Be Manufactured Locally

The government is set to provide vaccines for the cattle killer disease, January Disease also known as Theileriosis. The vaccine is currently being produced and will be availed in the next two or three months.

In 2018, the country lost about 50 000 cattle to the disease. Department of Veterinary Services director Dr Josphat Nyika on Tuesday said:

The chemicals being manufactured are directed towards January disease hotspot areas mapped by the department. Affected provinces are Mashonaland East, Masvingo, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central, Manicaland and some parts of the Midlands.
