Reference is made to the above-cited subject matter.

The First Lady has proposed to hold interface meetings with the Chiefs’ wives in order to have an opportunity to share with them and build synergies on various programmes that promote empowerment of women and youths in their communities. This programme is premised on the philosophy that Chiefs’ wives are at the centre of community development anchoring their spouses. They therefore should be trained and empowered in order to strengthen this function.

In an effort to reduce cost and the time taken to hold the meeting, the Ministry has seen it necessary that the provinces be combined into regions as follows:

Region 1: Mashonaland West, Central and East Provinces Region 2: Midlands, Matabeleland North and South Provinces Region 3: Manicaland and Masvingo Provinces

The meeting for region number 1 has been scheduled for the 15 of February 2019 at Zimbabwe House in Harare. It shall be a half day meeting and therefore the chiefs’ wives are expected to travel to and from the venue on the same day. Please note that every chieftainship must be represented including those which are vacant as they should send a female representative. Female Chiefs are expected to attend the meetings. The spouses are to use the Chiefs’ vehicles. Where the chieftainship does not have a vehicle, arrangements should made with the other chiefs’ spouses within the district The Ministry will only provide fuel so as to facilitate ease of travelling. Information regarding the details of the two remaining meetings shall be availed to you in due course.

On the same note. chiefs’ wives are expected to bring a document with statistics on the following

a) Number of girls 18 years and below b) Number of women to 40 years c) Number of women 40-60 years d) Number of women 60 years and above e) Running and possible projects that can be undertaken to empower women.

Please find attached hereto a copy of the template for presenting the above information.

District Administrators are expected to assist the Chiefs spouses compile the above information.
