Medical Practitioners Propose Charging For Services In US$Dollars

Medical practitioners have proposed a steep rise in tariffs and consultation fees which are denominated in United States dollars.

A document circulating on social media indicates that initial consultation fees to a general practitioner will be set at US$35 (or equivalent) and subsequent visits at US$30.

The document further shows that a visit to a dentist will cost US$30, paediatricians would charge a consultation fee of US$100 and US$70 for reviews. paediatricians would charge a consultation fee of US$100 and US$70 for reviews.

Zimbabwe Medical Association (ZIMA) secretary-general Sacrifice Chirima said consultations regarding the proposed tariffs are ongoing with its members. He said:

Consultations are underway regarding tariffs and once the Zima national tariffs and liaison committee consolidates all recommendations from branches and affiliate associations as well as concludes negotiations with AHfoZ [Association of the Healthcare Funders of Zimbabwe], it will communicate the agreed tariffs.
