BREAKING: Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commissioners Resign

The commissioners of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) have resigned today. The president’s office issued a statement today by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda :

“…the President Cde ED Mnangagwa has accepted the resignation of the Chairman of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, Dr Job Whabira, with effect from 31 January 2019. Furthermore, His Excellency the President accepts the resignation of the rest of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commissioners with effect from 31 January 2019,”

A ZBC report says President Mnangagwa will soon appoint a new chairman of ZACC in terms of Section 254 (1a) of the constitution of Zimbabwe Number 20.

Earlier this month, the ZACC commissioners were reportedly summoned by the president and advised that they had been ineffective and that the commission would be dissolved. The commissioners were reportedly involved in corruption themselves. It may, therefore, be the case that they have been asked to resign.
