The UK believes it is right that sovereign states have the right to decide their own security policy. We monitor Russia’s developing international defence relationships, including in Africa.

The Russian Federation has a strong military presence in Eritrea, a tiny country in the Horn Of Africa that has been ruled by Isaias Afwerki since 1993 when it gained Independence from Ethiopia.
