AFCON 2019 Kick-off Date Pushed Back By A Week To Accommodate Ramadan Fast

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed that the kick-off date for the 2019 AFCON finals will be delayed by a week.

The tournament, which will be hosted in Egypt, is now set to start on June 21 instead of 14 June and runs until 19th of July.

The decision to delay the tournament by a week was made at an Emergency Committee meeting on Sunday. It was done in order to accommodate Ramadan and the Eid Al-Fitr holiday.

The draw will take place on Friday 12 April 2019 after the final round of qualifiers is played.

Twenty-four teams will take part in the competition for the first time in history. Cairo will be home to two stadiums, including the 74,100-capacity Cairo Stadium where the opening match will be played.
