Govt Blasts Lord Palmer's Suggestion Britain Should Recolonise Zimbabwe To End Crisis
Government spokesperson, Nick Mangwana who is also the Secretary for Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services responded to Lord Adrian Palmer’s suggestion that Britain should recolonise Zimbabwe.
Lord Palmer asked British Foreign Office Minister Lord Ahmad if he had considered recolonising Zimbabwe as an option to safeguard the lives of Zimbabwean citizens following a violent crackdown of protestors by the army in response to last week’s violent demonstrations. Mangwana said Lord Palmer’s suggestion was regrettable and unfortunate in the 21st century. He said colonisation is the equivalent of slavery. Said Mangwana:
The suggestion by Lord Adrian Palmer in the House of Lords in Britain for the British Government to consider the idea of recolonising Zimbabwe in order to deal with the violent disturbances wrought by the position is both regrettable and quite unfortunate in the 21st century. Colonisation, like its cousin, slavery were a blot on humanity and epitomise all that is wrong about humanity. Zimbabwe fought a protracted war of liberation to free itself from the albatross of colonialism. Life and limb was lost.
FeedbackDeputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet George Charamba said Lord Palmer’s suggestion is not practical.
