The police have today arrested the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions Secretary General Japhet Moyo following the organisation’s call for last week’s nationwide stayaway.
The 14 – 16 January stayaway turned violent when some people did not stay at home but barricaded streets and looted shops throughout Zimbabwe, attracting a violent crackdown by the police in the aftermath.
Moyo was arrested upon his arrival at the Robert Mugabe International airport from China.
The trade union’s president, Paul Mutasa went missing last week and yet to be located.
Other prominent activists and union leaders arrested for the protests recently include Pastor Evan Mawarire and ARTUZ leader, Obert Masaraure.
